Schaefer Yachts 510 Pininfarina:

Brazilian Passion Meets Italian Style

Schaefer Yachts 510 Pininfarina
Schaefer Yachts 510 Pininfarina

Bulwarks fold out to provide a place to see and be seen aboard the Schaefer Yachts 510 Pininfarina – a collaboration between the 25-year-old Brazilian yacht company and the 80-year-old Italian design firm Pininfarina, of Ferrari and Alfa Romeo fame among others. The bulkhead lowers at the touch of a button to form this balcony, and drop-in railings add security. The extension of the teak decking is also standard. This teak is also found throughout the salon and dining area, all on one level to prevent tripping.

Yamaha AR195:

Single Jet w/Steering Keel

Yamaha AR195
Yamaha AR195

Note how the spray comes out from under the hull of the jet-drive Yamaha AR195 starting aft of the windshield, assuring those aboard stay dry until they want to get wet. Powered with a single Yamaha 1.8-liter Super Vortex High Output (SVHO) engine turning the jet drive, the test boat planed in 3.3 seconds and reached a top speed of 48.4 mph (77.8 kph) at 7540 rpm. The included Yamaha Articulating Keel is an extended, steerable keel that moves in relation to the jet pump nozzles to provide much improved directional control while docking or maneuvering.

TRACKER® Pro Team™ 175 TXW:

All-Welded Bass Rig w/57.9 MPH WOT

TRACKER® Pro Team™ 175 TXW
TRACKER® Pro Team™ 175 TXW

What TRACKER® calls its “Revolution Hull” has the running surface stopping short of the transom. This reduces wetted surface so top end will be a tad higher. The truncated running surface also feeds a cleaner water flow to the prop, with the engine effectively set further aft, marginally improving acceleration from a stop. In our tests with the optional 150-hp Mercury FourStroke, the boat planed in 3.3 seconds and ran to 20 mph in 5.1 seconds and to 30 in 8.1 seconds. Top speed was 57.9, very fast for an aluminum bass rig like this one.

Sea Chaser 24 HFC

With over 400 options in colors and graphic style in the engine cowling of the Evinrude E-TEC G2 250, there’s no problem matching the sea-foam green gelcoat of the Sea Chaser 24 HFC. The 25-inch shaft outboard has a gear ratio of 1.85:1 and was propped with a 15 1/8” diameter by 20” pitch Rebel, 3-blade stainless steel propeller. Estimated test weight of the stepped hull was 4,035 lbs. (1,830 kg.) – no problem for the high-torque two-stroke, which pushed it on plane in 3.3 seconds and hit a top speed of 52.8 mph (45.9 knots) at 5500 rpm. Best cruise was 31.7 mph (27.5 knots) with a fuel burn of 4.2 mpg.

New Multifunction Helm Displays

uscg report

This Garmin 942 uses a touchscreen to control charting and autopilot function, among many other features.

Boaters may be the ultimate multitaskers when it comes to the range of activities they perform: they keep boat and crew out of trouble while monitoring course, speed, depth, boat traffic in the area, engines and onboard systems, as well as keeping one eye on the weather. They also make sure that everyone on board is having a good time and may also be monitoring fishing rods or a water skier. Many of today’s multifunction helm displays can take some of that effort off a boater’s plate, by making it simpler to keep an eye on everything through split screens and intuitive user interfaces.
