Schaefer Yachts 510 Pininfarina:

Brazilian Passion Meets Italian Style

Schaefer Yachts 510 Pininfarina
Schaefer Yachts 510 Pininfarina

Bulwarks fold out to provide a place to see and be seen aboard the Schaefer Yachts 510 Pininfarina – a collaboration between the 25-year-old Brazilian yacht company and the 80-year-old Italian design firm Pininfarina, of Ferrari and Alfa Romeo fame among others. The bulkhead lowers at the touch of a button to form this balcony, and drop-in railings add security. The extension of the teak decking is also standard. This teak is also found throughout the salon and dining area, all on one level to prevent tripping.

Scarab 255 Open ID:

Twin 300-hp Rotax 4-TEC Jet Power

Scarab 255 Open ID
Scarab 255 Open ID

With an LOA of 25’, the Scarab 255 Open ID is one of the larger jet-drive boats we’ve tested and it comes with plenty of power to provide an exciting performance. Our test boat was equipped with the largest engine package available, twin 300-hp Rotax 4-TEC supercharged jet systems. The twin engines are compact despite their output, maximizing cockpit space and they come with a thermostat to monitor the engine temperature. Batteries, an exhaust system, and other critical equipment are positioned outboard of the engines to either side, within easy reach.

Grand Banks 60 Skylounge:

Legacy Styling, State-of-the-Art Construction

Grand Banks 60 Skylounge
Grand Banks 60 Skylounge

The Grand Banks 60 Skylounge continues her legacy classic styling with options including a varnished teak transom and flagstaff, but under the skin she’s all state-of-the-art construction. The hull is vacuum-infused with E-glass, vinylester and epoxy resin and uses carbon fiber in structural areas for added strength with minimal weight. She is cored with Corecell and Airex foam. The deck and everything above it are constructed of Corecel-cored carbon fiber and infused with vinylester resin, an expensive material that most builders only use in the hull. The result of this design is a low center of gravity that, combined with a 19’2” (5.84 m) beam, enhances the stability of the boat in a seaway, plus provides a lot more room inside.

Boston Whaler 380 Realm:

Enclosed Helm for Extended Season Boating

Boston Whaler 380 Realm
Boston Whaler 380 Realm

We tested the Boston Whaler 380 Realm on a rough and windy day in open water and found her more than equal to the conditions. Her hardtop and full windshield create what is in effect a pilothouse design, assuring the operator and those within stay dry. With a sharp forward entry and a 23-degree deadrise aft, the ride remains smooth even in less than optimal conditions. And, while some pilothouse models become greenhouses in warm climates, the Realm evades the problem with an opening window and walkway through to the bow, a sliding sunroof and side windows, and if all that is not enough, dual A/C vents facing the helm.

Beneteau Antares 23:

Mini Outboard Cabin Cruiser

Beneteau Antares 23
Beneteau Antares 23

Beneteau is introducing a range of outboard-powered sport cruisers to the North American boating market, the Antares series. The Beneteau Antares 23 combines European styling touches, a versatile interior arrangement, with the performance of outboard power. She has a 9’1”(2.76 m) beam, wider than most in class. Note the optional cockpit Bimini, a useful addition for enjoying sunny days in warm climates. The optional bow thruster and windlass are rare in boats of this size. The bow thruster is a feature that will be appreciated when docking with the single outboard where wind and current are factors. The windlass provides ease of anchoring out in your favorite getaway location.
