World Cat 255DC | Monte Carlo Yachts 96 | Tahoe 550 TS
The World Cat 255DC is well laid out for its dual missions of fishing and family fun, with the bow area particularly useful for both. Full cushion backrests angle back to provide a reclined feel here. There's plenty of lounging space, and if the owner inserts the optional bow table, six people can enjoy drinks and hors d'oeuvres. She is also ready for fishing by adding a couple of options. The cat concept is catching on in America and this is one of the reasons why.
NMMA certification of boats means the helmsman is assured of good lines of sight that meet specific ABYC standards for the height of the eye from a standing and seated position. This is an important requirement, and one that is not met by some boats on the market. |

| Intrepid 475 Panacea |
The Intrepid 475 Panacea is the company’s largest-ever center console. She comes equipped with plenty of power to push her 13’8” (4.17 m) wide hull with quad Yamaha 425 V8 XTO outboards—a total of 1700-hp. Not surprisingly, she was strong on performance in our test runs with a top speed of 60.7 mph. For an all-out tournament boat, that sort of speed means you can get to the best spots sooner and stay longer while still making it back to weigh-in before cutoff—a real advantage. At a 7-mph trolling speed, she got 1 mpg. While at a cruise of 4000 rpm and 37.3 mph, she got 0.6 mpg for a range of better than 345 statute miles.

| Monte Carlo Yachts 96 |
The pilothouse on the Monte Carlo Yachts 96 is designed for a professional captain: There’s a cushioned lounge space to starboard that can serve as companion seating but is also a pilot berth for long cruising legs, when a mate takes over the helm. All the controls are placed on flats to either side of the wheel just as found on commercial vessels. There is actually better visibility forward than it appears here because of the low angle of the camera. The captain’s chair is fully automatic. Remove the cushions for better side visibility.

| TAHOE® 550 TS |
We tested the 19’10” (6.05 m) TAHOE® 550 TS with the optional 150 Mercury XL FourStroke, a $3,500 upgrade to the $27,595 base price with Mercury 115 EXLPT FourStroke and a tandem trailer. She planed in 4.5 seconds and had a top speed of 48.8 mph with three adults and a full load of fuel on board. At 3000 rpm and 24.0 mph, she delivered an impressive 6.1 mpg, giving her a range of over 180 miles on the 33-gallon (125 L) fuel tank. We think this is a good entry level because of the economics involved as well as the boat’s utility. We would opt for the 150-hp engine as it will make the boat easier to sell at trade-in time.

| MJM 35Z |
MJM is well-known for building quality cruising boats. We tested the new MJM 35Z with a pair of Mercury Verado 350s, the maximum horsepower package, and found she pushed the 13,279-lb. (6,023 kg) hull to 47.0 mph at 5900 rpm. At that speed, our sound level meter picked up only 81 dBa at the helm, low enough that conversation is easily possible without shouting. She planed in about four seconds. Just as important, at 4000 rpm and 28.2 mph, she got 1.4 mpg for a range of 310 statute miles.

Cruisers Yachts Behind the Scenes |
Cruisers Yachts builds virtually every part that goes into their boats in-house, including the premium-class upholstery. All coverings are controlled by a computerized system and robotic cutting machines as seen here, ensuring rapid, perfect production of all the necessary components. Dry-Fast foam is used in all exterior seating, while interior seats are all made of multi-density foam, again with all parts computer-cut. While vinyls, foam and leathers are robotically cut, seats are stitched by hand with some help from Singer, and made one at a time. See it all.
