It has been over 10 years since we first tested the Seakeeper in Baltimore Harbor aboard a lightweight, narrow 50’ (15 m) express cruiser. The unit involved did the job as we reported and it was not long until boat builders started installing them for their own tests. As they say, the rest is history. Over time, the company made smaller and smaller units – and large ones, too – and now they have applications from 27’ (8.2 m) boats all the way up to boats over 85’ (26 m). Robalo 246 Cayman SD:
Bay/Flats Boat with Tower
The Robalo 246 Cayman SD equipped with an Evinrude E-TEC G2 300-hp outboard makes a solid package for anglers who fish open bays as well as the flats for bone fish and other species. The high-tech, fuel-efficient 2-stroke produced the best cruise at 3500 rpm, at which she ran 28.3 mph and got 3.6 mpg. With her standard 75-gallon (284 L) tank, she gave a safe range of 246 miles, enough to fish several days on most trips. Top speed with a four-blade 15 1/8" (38.42 cm) prop was 46.5 mph. The 81-degree tilt range of the integrated digital tilt and trim system allows raising the lower unit completely clear of the surface, a big plus for boats stored at a dock in saltwater.

The Prestige 520 carries her 14’9” (4.5 m) beam well forward. That combined with plenty of flair and sharp chines extending all the way to the bow, help to keep her windshield dry.
