Aviara AV32:
Twin Ilmors Power Lux Dayboat
Captain Steve gets cozy with the twin Ilmor 380-hp MPIs powering the Aviara AV32, a U.S.-built luxury dayboat with European style. She has the hatchet bow and open-transom stern with a large swim platform that have become hallmarks of the new breed, as well as the upscale interior appointments. The standup head, uncommon in even a large bowrider, will be appreciated — especially by XL guests. The Ilmors deliver on performance — top speed in our tests was 54.9 mph. The engines have a five-year warranty.

BENETEAU Monte Carlo 6:
Good Rough Weather Handling
We put the BENETEAU Monte Carlo 6 through her paces off Mallorca, Spain in the kind of conditions that keep some boats inside the inlet. We found that she is designed and engineered to take on rough water conditions. The sharp forward entry splits the waves and softens the ride, while hard chines help provide stability and knock down spray. The plumb bow not only adds a classic design feature but it also helps penetrate larger swells, while the hull volume forward provides lift when running at speed down-sea. Zeus pods with joystick plus a bow thruster made for easy handling around the docks.
