Axopar 37 XC Revolution

The folks at Axopar tell us that they invested heavily in the new 37 XC Revolution’s hydrodynamics, running computational fluid dynamics simulations and many sea trials and calculations. The company says the result is 30 percent better fuel economy and an extended range of approximately 75 nautical miles compared to earlier models. With twin 300-hp Mercury outboards, our test boat hit a top speed of 55.8 mph at 6000 rpm and at her most economical cruise speed of 29.6 mph at 3500 rpm, she had a range of 316 statute miles. In acceleration tests, the stepped hull stayed level and planed in 4 seconds. More...

Bowriders are the quintessential family boats. With power from sterndrives or today’s new high-horsepower outboards, they’ve grown to sizes never before considered, with many exceeding 30’ (9.14 m). Regardless of the size, they have room for a family and all of its carry-on stuff to enjoy a day on the water. Because of their inherent two-cockpit design, they have been social-distancing people for years, making entertaining and watersports available in what can be a three-ring circus of fun. VirtualBOATSHOW.com has more than 181 bowriders on display. To visit the boat show – admittance is free – click here...

Flexible Outboard-Powered Bowrider

Regal 33 SAV

When a manufacturer calls a model a Sports Activity Vessel, the boat better be versatile. With its 33 SAV, Regal designed adaptability throughout the outboard-powered bowrider. In the cockpit, the fish box is insulated and macerated. It’s also specifically sized to carry four dive tanks or large fenders. Even with outboards, she has a full-beam swim platform with sides that extend 2’10” (.86 m) abaft the bulwarks so swimmers are clear of the props. Belowdecks, she has two berths longer than 7’ (2.13 m), plus a separate shower stall in the private head. More...

Boating Safety

Kayakers are at the Greatest Risk

7-tips.png

Early season kayaking means taking extra precautions and being prepared for trouble.

Around the country, rescues and accidents involving kayakers’ figure prominently in the weekly USCG Accident Reports that BoatTEST receives. Kayaking is an excellent way to get some exercise and fresh air while practicing social-distancing, and the light-weight versions are easy to launch and carry on a boat. The trouble is that they are extremely easy to capsize. Anyone using them must plan on being capsized and have the safety gear available for self-rescue. Boaters need to be vigilant about their wake – for which they are responsible – and slow to idle whenever near a kayak. Following are 7 tips on how to make sure a great day on the water ends with a tired smile. More...

Industry News

NMMA Pres. Urges a United Marine Industry

nmma-president.png

This is a picture taken last year of marine industry representatives on the nation’s Capital steps during the American Boating Congress’ annual lobbying effort.

Unfortunately, over years one of the greatest threats to recreational boating has come from our own government. A prime example of this was in 1991 when Congress passed a 10% “luxury” tax on new boats costing over $100,000. Virtually no one bought boats over $100k, thousands of jobs were lost, and nearly half of the U.S. boat builders in that category were killed off. Yesterday, National Marine Manufacturers Association (NMMA) president Frank Hugelmeyer called on the recreational boating industry to work together to ensure that it exits the pandemic healthier than when the COVID-19 crisis began. BoatTEST members can aid that effort by keeping government helping boating, not hurting it. More...

Jeanneau Leader 10.5 (34’5”)

BoattestLEASING is now looking for late-model, premium boats from 26’ to 35’ (7.92 m to 10.66 m) to lease to like-minded boaters in the eastern U.S. Boat Leasing is now trending strongly, given the times we live in. Boats are a safe and healthy way for a family to have fun outside and at the same time maintain social distancing. By leasing unused days in a boat, owners are utilizing a valuable asset for a financial return on the investment. BoatTEST’s leasing program helps boat owners pay down their boat loan, as well as to cover a portion of annual operating costs. To find out more, contact General Manager Greg Sweeney at 727-200-3474 or [email protected].
