The word we are getting from virtually all boat builders is that their production is sold out for the next six months – much of it at retail. Two popular brands that we know of have every boat they can build next year already purchased by dealers. This means for the summer boating season you want, decisions should be made now. This week, BoatTEST Reports lets you in on some of the latest new boats launched, and a lot more. More...

CL Yachts CLB88:

Built for Long-Distance Cruising

clyachts-cl88-120720.png

CL Yachts constructs the CLB88 with a floating framework that isolates the hull with support members to reduce on board vibration and associated noise while maintaining RINA-certified performance. This also provides an added measure of safety by creating a de-facto double bottom. She’s built with full resin-infusion. Note the proud protective rail on the hull side amidships and at the aft stern of the boat close to the waterline. CL is a quality builder that does things right.

Formula 500 Super Sport Crossover:

New Flagship Advances the Genre

formula-500ssc-120720.png

The Formula 500 SSC has an LOA of 53’4” (16.26 m) with a beam of 14’6” (4.42 m).

Formula Boat’s new 500 Super Sport Crossover is the next evolution in the company’s popular breed of do-everything, go-anywhere outboard-powered boat. She has no fewer than seven venues for social interaction, a 71-sq.-ft. (6.6 sq. m) stern platform with water access to both sides and four locations for cocktails or dining. Below, she has a large dining banquette/bed, a master cabin with queen bed and sofa, a second galley and a full head. She comes standard with a 16-kW diesel generator, a Seakeeper 9 gyro stabilizer, 64,000 BTUs of reverse-cycle A/C, radar, full electronics and a Mercury Joystick to harness five 400-hp Mercury Verado engines. She’s a combination day boat and express cruiser without much compromise. Her rugged build means she can go anywhere owners can find fuel for her 650-gallon (2,460 L) tank.

She was spawned by the immense popularity of the Formula 430 SSC, which was launched in 2017. She seemed huge when we first saw her, but now picture the new 500 SSC, which is 10’ (3.04 m) longer and 2.5’ (.76 m) wider. At 41,000 lbs. (18,636 kg), she has 64% more displacement.

The new Formula 500 SSC is a world-class vessel that should be at home anywhere in the world. The first one launches in February 2021, and we’ll be testing her then. But, those seriously interested shouldn’t wait for our test video and inspection, as production is limited, and the buzz in boating circles will be starting today. More...

Fairline F//Line 33:

Sleek, Luxurious Day Boat

fairline-f-line-33-120720.png

The Fairline F//Line 33 is made for elegant entertaining in the cockpit, where there’s booth seating for 6 around an adjustable-height table with passageways outboard on each side. Lower it and the two seatbacks can be flipped down to create aft-facing seating or laid flat to create a sunpad. A wet bar with a grill provides more utility. Additionally, an optional hydraulic transom folds out to form a “teak beach.” Below there’s is an intimate banquette with table for cocktails, which converts into a bed for two, plus a double berth amidships and head, giving this day boat definite weekend possibilities.

Eastern Boats Coastal 30:

Affordable Downeast Cruiser

eastern-coastal30-120720.png

Eastern has been building Downeast-style boats in New Hampshire for 40 years and the Coastal 30 is a departure for the company. Instead of the traditional rounded lobster-style bottom found on other Eastern models, the Coastal 30 has a conventional V with four strakes and hard chines. Twin 250-hp outboards open up storage in the cockpit and allow more versatility in the overall design. She’s a coastal cruiser that sleeps four and has a head with a separate shower stall, rare in a boat of this size. Aft cruising canvas makes her a three-season vessel.

Regal 42 FXO:

Outboards Add Speed, Utility, and Space

regal-42-120720.jpg

Regal Marine re-designed the 42 FXO flying bridge yacht for triple outboards to make her a more versatile boat for families who don’t want inboard power. By doing so, Regal is getting in front of a trend that has been developing, and it is one of the few 42' (12.8 m) flybridge yachts on the market with outboard power. Maintenance is simple because it is done once a year or every 100 hours by the dealer. Just keep an eye on the oil. The FXO is powered by triple Yamaha 425s, and we scored a WOT speed of 49.4 mph during our tests.
