Fleming Yachts 55:

Much More Than a Trawler

fleming-55-080320.png

Fleming Yachts 55

The Fleming 55 is designed for a cruising couple, or two couples, or a family to make long offshore and coastal passages comfortably and safely. Company founder Tony Fleming makes sure his motoryachts are built to take rugged conditions and stay at sea for extended times. At 7.4 knots, the Fleming 55 has a range of 2,788 nautical miles, and because she is powered by twin 500-hp diesel inboards, she can get up on plane and run 18 knots to outpace a storm. She’s more versatile than a traditional trawler in that regard, but she has the space and accommodations one expects from a faux planked yacht that exhibits traditional lines and a Portuguese bridge. Galeon 485 HTS

With the 485 HTS, Galeon set out to create a low-profile express yacht with an inviting, open plan on the main deck. In the salon, a focus on enhanced natural light and the ability to convert the area and the cockpit into a single indoor-outdoor gathering area make her attractive for entertaining. Belowdecks, the master and VIP staterooms are at opposite ends, which improves privacy. The hydraulic swim platform and tender garage enhance her utility. More...

Mixing Aluminum and Fiberglass

avid-21fs-080320.png

Avid Boats 21 FS

The Avid Boats 21 FS is built with a hull and deck made from 5052 aluminum alloy and voids are filled with flotation foam. The center console, livewell, and insulated baitwell are all fiberglass. Avid Boats may be a new company, but the people behind it bring more than 100 years of fishboat-building experience – and the 21 FS is evidence of that. Combining materials helps save on tooling costs, construction costs and provides more design flexibility, says the company. More...

New rear swim platforms on the 160 Super Sport.

When Boston Whaler re-designed the 160 Super Sport, the manufacturer improved her ride with a new bottom design, but they also added features that enhance the boat’s utility. She comes standard with dual swim platforms that weren’t on the previous model, and there’s lockable storage on the front of the console that provides security for items like car keys and wallets. An owner can customize the 160 Super Sport with a choice of rear accent hull colors. Options like an available ski tow pylon make her even more versatile. More...

From Wildlife

Officials are concerned that boaters are getting too close to whales in the wild.

One of 10 endangered right whale calves birthed off the East Coast of the United States was found dead off Monmouth Beach, N.J. According the National Fisherman, a necropsy determined the young male was struck at least twice by a vessel, suffering wounds from the propellers and skegs. More...
