Fountaine Pajot MY 40:

Designed to Tame Chop

Fountaine Pajot MY 40

During our test of the Fountaine Pajot MY 40, steady winds whipped up a 2’ to 3’ (.61 m) to .91 m) chop, which gave a good feel for how the boat rides in less-than-ideal conditions. Her twin hulls had narrow entry at the bow and spray rails on each that form chines as they run. As the seas built, we added power and let the knife-like bows cut through the waves. With the engines spaced far apart, the Volvo Penta IPS joystick let us put the boat wherever we wanted in the marina, despite the windage. More...

Donzi 41 GT:

Seating Designed for the Significant Other

donzi-41-gt-091420.png

The 41 GT’s rear seats can even be used when the boat is running in chop.

One of the biggest challenges that buyers of traditional high-performance boats have is convincing the significant other that the seating plan was made for her. Of course, she’s right –it wasn’t. Now, Donzi has changed all that on its 41 GT. Donzi has created a high-performance boat that is intended for entertaining while at anchor or at the dock, as well as comfortable chaise lounge seating when the boat is under way at high speed. The aft facing lounges have padded footrests so passengers can sit and watch the wake, or sunbathe. The facing center section seating has a wide aisle for entertaining. A refrigerator and wet bar are handy. The deck is on one level, eliminating a trip hazard. When it comes to boat selection, ladies rule and usually get their way, and certainly do on the Donzi 41 GT. Formula 350 Crossover Bowrider:

Re-Engineered for Outboards

formula-350-cbr-091420.jpg

The Formula 350 Crossover Bowrider’s swim platform is clean and uncluttered.

Formula’s 350 Crossover Bowrider was one of the models that ushered in the trend of big outboards replacing stern drives in this style of boat. The three Mercury Verados were installed on Armstrong brackets nestled under the swim platform. The choice of the brackets was a smart one because Formula didn’t have to drastically alter its existing tooling and they allow for the engines to be trimmed all the way out of the water, something that can’t be done with a sterndrive. Additionally, all the rigging hoses, cables and wire harnesses were run through three large openings in the transom beneath the swim platform. The 9’-wide (.23 m) swim platform measures 2’6” (0.76 m) fore to aft, so it provides the same basic real estate that would come with the sterndrive version. More...

Beneteau Gran Turismo 36

Powered by twin 300-hp Mercury 4.6-liter V-8 outboards, the Gran Turismo 36 has good handling characteristics and a solid feel in a variety of conditions, despite her relatively light displacement. She hit a top speed of 41.5 mph at 5670 rpm and best cruise came at 5000 rpm, where we ran 33.7 mph and covered just under a mile on a gallon of gas, giving her a range of 156 statute miles. The engines are mounted a foot (30.48 cm) abaft the swim platform, giving the boat has a balanced feel, and she clings to the water in turns without scrubbing speed. More...
