Galeon 325 GTO

Galeon Yachts’ new 325 GTO is the manufacturer’s first outboard-powered boat as well as its first bowrider. Since it’s also the beginning of a planned four-boat lineup we were more than a little interested to see how this company, known for excellent handling boats with impeccable fit and finish, managed to do with this newest model. And, we pulled no punches in our assessment. More...

Seakeeper 1:

Anti-Roll Stabilization for Smaller Boats

seakeeper-1-020821.jpg

Seakeeper 1

The Seakeeper 1 is the smallest gyroscopic anti-roll stabilizer that the company makes and it’s intended for boats from 23’ to 30’ (7.01 m to 9.14 m). It runs on DC power, so no generator is needed. Its small footprint and unique-to the-brand flush-mount design let it be installed almost anywhere. The 365-lb. (165.56 kg) unit doesn’t need to be tied into the stringers, but many boat manufacturers are already designing internal structures to accept the Seakeeper 1. For our test, Capt. Steve stood on a narrow center-console foredeck and challenged another boater to knock him off. The result was...

Regal 42 Fly:

Easy to Operate, Move-Up Vessel

regal-42fly-020821.jpg

Regal 42 Fly

The Regal 42 Fly could be an owner’s first twin-engine yacht and she’s set up to make it easy for an owner to step up with Volvo Penta IPS 600s and joystick. Her upper and lower helm stations are on the starboard side of the boat, and a window alongside the lower station opens so the captain can lean out and keep his hand on the joystick while backing into a slip. Regal uses Volvo Penta’s glass dash with a single Garmin 16” (40.64 cm) screen that provides all course and engine data on a single display. More...

Ranger Tugs R-25:

Bottom Enhanced to Improve Handling

ranger-r-25-020821.jpg

Ranger Tugs R-25

In the running surface of the Ranger Tugs R-25, the company employs Laminar Flow Interrupters between boat’s strakes. They create a rough surface, similar to the dimples on a golf ball and Ranger says this design wrinkle is intended to improve cornering in turns. Couple this with a reverse chine and variable deadrise and the result is a boat that operates well in a wide spectrum of conditions. And that’s just the outside. Wait until you see the inside. Ferretti 550:

Functional Flying Bridge Yacht

ferretti-550-020821.jpg

Ferretti 550

While most builders seem to be focused on extra-large flying bridges, Ferretti used a comparatively smaller approach on the 550. It works well with the yacht’s overall styling and still provides plenty of passenger space. Stairs from the cockpit are to starboard with a small wetbar just ahead. To port, seating wraps from abaft the stairs to the backrest for the helm seat, which is double-wide. The helm is all the way to port and a sunpad fills the forward area just abaft the acrylic windscreen. Her bow has another sunning area forward with a sofa-style lounge on the front of the pilothouse. Wait until we get to the main deck. More...
