Beneteau Gran Turismo 36

Powered by twin 300-hp Mercury 4.6-liter V-8 outboards, the Gran Turismo 36 has good handling characteristics and a solid feel in a variety of conditions, despite her relatively light displacement. She hit a top speed of 41.5 mph at 5670 rpm and best cruise came at 5000 rpm, where we ran 33.7 mph and covered just under a mile on a gallon of gas, giving her a range of 156 statute miles. The engines are mounted a foot (30.48 cm) abaft the swim platform, giving the boat has a balanced feel, and she clings to the water in turns without scrubbing speed. More...

schaefer-580-091420.png

Schaefer Yachts 580

Schaefer Yachts strives to make its 580 flying bridge motoryacht lighter and stronger by building cored hulls instead of using solid fiberglass. The laminate is also resin-infused for the optimum combination of strength and weight. The bottom shape is quite sharp forward and warps to a deadrise of 14.1 degrees at the transom. Our test boat weighed 59,757 lbs. (27,105 kg) and ran a top speed of 30.0 knots at 2460 rpm, powered by twin 625-hp Volvo Penta IPS systems. Optimum cruising range was 262.2 nautical miles at 21.8 knots and 2000 rpm. At 1000 RPM she goes 8.5 knots, getting 1.1 nmpg for a range of 590 nm, with a 10% fuel reserve. More...

The 240 Dauntless’s bow seats add comfort to the ride.

At some point during a day on the water, even the saltiest among us would like a comfortable place to sit and the Boston Whaler 240 Dauntless offers several options. A hide-away bench seat flips out of the stern and the backrest for the helm seat is reversible so the captain and a companion can face aft and watch lines when drift fishing, or just chat with folks on the aft bench. Up front, there’s a seat on the front of the console, plus flip-up backrests for the bow lounges that create chaise-style seating. More...

malibu-m220-091420.jpg

The M220 is intended to be a more affordable family surf boat.

Malibu Boats, which builds wakesports towboats, has unveiled its new M220. The new model takes its cues from the flagship of the series, the M240. “The response to the M240 was overwhelming,” Malibu CEO Jack Springer said in a statement. “We kept getting requests for a more compact version of the ultra-premium M240, so we worked incredibly hard to make a boat just under 23 feet that would live up to the new benchmark the M-Series set.” More...
