Cruisers 35 Express

Cruisers Yachts’ 35 Express is designed to optimize the available space in this sleek-looking yacht. To that end, the cockpit has a large wraparound lounge that can convert from an aft-facing bench to a flat cushion for catching rays. There’s also a chaise style lounge alongside the helm position. The wetbar features a sink, refrigerator and ice maker. Belowdecks, her mid-cabin was designed to be open and connected to the salon so passengers in each area can carry on a conversation – or to be a sleeping cabin with a privacy curtain. More...

Chaparral 300 OSX:

Premium Day Boat w/a Sleeping Cabin

chaparral-300-0308.jpg

Chaparral 300 OSX

As soon as we stepped aboard Chaparral’s 300 OSX, we noticed that the helm was positioned in the middle of the boat, but in no way did she feel like a “center console.” She’s a large bowrider with spacious lounges up front and a cockpit bench that wraps around to port. Backrests can be set up to face forward, aft or be laid flat. After the boat arrives at its destination, the two-person helm seat can be pivoted to join the entertaining. Try that in a center console. Belowdecks, she has a cabin that sleeps two. More...

Video Interview Part #4

New 600-hp Mercury V12 Verado:

Speed vs. Fuel Consumption

mercury-pt4.png

The numbers above were published by Mercury Marine based on their tests of the Sea Ray SLX 400 powered by twin 600-hp V12 Verado engines in fresh water. The tested weight was 21,000 lbs. (9,545 kg).

In our interview with Mercury Marine President Chris Dress, he tells us that in terms of fuel consumption, the new V12 Verado provides up to a 20% improvement in fuel consumption over multi-outboard engine applications and should be competitive with twin diesel engines in large cruisers. This is the aspect of the new V12’s performance that is making the whole industry sit up and take notice. More...

Regal 42 FXO:

Outboards Add Speed and Utility

regal-42-0308.png

Regal 42 FXO

Regal offers its 42’ (12.8 m) flying bridge in two versions, the 42 Fly with twin Volvo Penta 435-hp IPS600 diesel pod drives and the 42 FXO with triple 425-hp Yamaha outboards. We tested the 42 Fly in 2017 with the twin diesels and hit a top speed of 40.8 mph and cruised at 31.7. The 42 FXO hit a top speed of 49.3 mph and had a best cruise of 34.2. The biggest advantage of the outboards, obviously, is that they can be raised all the way out of the water so the 42 FXO can more easily be pulled up to a sandbar or kept in a slip without worrying as much about corrosion in a saltwater environment – or a moon tide if she is in front of the house.
