In 2008, BoatTEST editor Eric Colby was part of a record-setting run from Cape Hatteras, N.C., to the Statue of Liberty in New York aboard a 38' (11.58 m) Fountain center console powered by triple 300-hp Mercury Verado outboards. The boat covered the 410 miles in 6 hours, 10 minutes and 8 seconds and Colby had to stand the whole time. If he had been on the Fountain 39NX, he would have had his choice of comfortable seats, including facing lounges in the cockpit, on the front of the console or in the bow. The Yamaha 195 FSH sport is a center console with a 1.8-liter Super Vortex High Output (SVHO) water-jet propulsion system. The 19 ½’ (5.94 m) boat is set up for fishing and day boating activities like wakesports and hanging out at the sandbar. For fishing the shallows, it draws 16” (40.64 cm).
