First Boat Show of the Brave New World

By

VIP Invitation Only

steelpointe-nl.png

The Steelpointe Yacht & Charter Show will be held June 19-21 in Bridgeport, CT on the Long Island Sound Coast.

BoatTEST is proud to be a sponsor of a show bound to make marine history – the first boat show to open in the world after the near-universal human lockdown. The “Invitation-Only” show is the Steelpointe Yacht & Charter Show to be held June 19-21, in a remarkable new 5-star marina on Bridgeport, CT’s harbor. The show will have luxury yachts of all types, both power and sail, new and used, and mostly large.

Crewed Charter Boats. It will also be the first crewed boat charter show open to the VIP “Invitation-Only” public. Charter shows are usually confined to brokers only, but at this show, people considering a crewed-yacht vacation can see the boats for themselves and meet the crews – so there will be no taking someone’s word for both the boat and crew. It is truly a milestone in how the boating industry does business.

Luxury and Exotic. It will also feature exotic and antique automobiles, a fantastic collection which we have seen, and think our members will enjoy. Sikorsky will have several VIP helicopters for viewing, and there will be music, gourmet seafood, and complementary cocktails.

Social Distancing and Safety. We are all concerned when we leave our homes about doing everything we can not to become infected with the COVID-19 virus. That holds true of the show organizers and BoatTEST, as well. By closely following CDC guidelines, and instituting measures far beyond their guidelines, the organizers are making sure this is an “event with no crowds.” See the detailed report on the show...

Riviera 505 SUV:

Express Yacht w/Open Concept

riviera-505-051820.png

Riviera used a clever design approach, creating an open concept in a low-profile motoryacht.

On its 505 SUV, Riviera Yachts wanted the acronym SUV to be more than just a name. The manufacturer put a bluewater-capable bottom under her and used an innovative open concept to make the main deck feel much more airy than on many express cruisers in class. Massive side windows are the key. They extend from the tops of the seat backs and up to the hardtop rim with minimal-sized mullions. Together with the windshield, aft glass slider and the motorized sunroof, the windows let in the sunshine and fresh air, making the salon feel more spacious than others in class. More...

New Product

Sharrow Propellers to Be Mass-Produced

sharrow-1.png

Sharrow Propeller

Sharrow Marine plans to have a mass-produced cast version of its innovative propeller by the end of this year. BoatTEST.com evaluated the first model from the company, the Model MX-1, and found that it out-performs a standard propeller in virtually every category. The propeller also won an Innovation Award at last February’s Miami International Boat Show in the Propulsion Equipment & Parts category. The new cast stainless steel Sharrow props will cost about $2,000 each. Sharrow is now taking $100 deposits on orders, the balance due when ready to ship, which will be in early 2021. Even though they will mass produced, Sharrow tells us that supplies will be limited. More...

Smartly Designed Express

Jeanneau NC 37

At 37' (11.47 m), the Jeanneau NC 37 features a sliding helm station door – making pulling into a slip or tying up to refuel easier when shorthanded. The captain can open it to grab a spring line or just to improve the view. A large sliding glass door also opens up passage from the cockpit to the salon. The two gathering areas are also on the same level, which eliminates a tripping hazard. More...

The Vexus AVX1880 with an Evinrude E-TEC G2 115 H.O. outboard.

When powered by a lightweight, 3-cylinder Evinrude E-TEC G2 115 H.O. outboard, the Vexus AVX1880 during our test got 7.9 mpg at 3000 rpm and 26.0 mph. With the two-stroke, E-TEC G2 115 H.O. making power with every stroke of the crankshaft, the 2,479-lb. (1,124 kg) AVX1880 planed in just 3.4 seconds and reached 20 mph in 5.6 seconds. The Evinrude G2 115 is one of the most fuel-efficient engines in class because it has direct, in-the-cylinder injection, and only three of them – a concept more and more car makers are adopting. Few segments of boating have evolved more than personal watercraft. They started out as extremely athletic machines that the user stood on to ride. Today, cruising models can accommodate three passengers comfortably and carry enough gear for an overnight camping trip. Systems like braking and reverse make them easier and safer than ever to ride. 70% of Mercedes and BMWs are Leased —

Why Not Premium Boats, Too?

chaparral-300.jpg

Chaparral 300 OSX

BoattestLEASING makes boating affordable to thousands of would-be boaters by leasing unused days in an owned boat and making them available for a low down-payment and low monthly payment. Essentially, the cost of ownership is spread over a number of boaters, and everyone wins: The boat owner who leases unused days receives income to defray his costs, the lessee receives use of a premium boat for far less than it would cost to rent or charter the same boat. To find out more, contact General Manager Greg Sweeney at 727-200-3474 or [email protected].

How to Keep PFDs COVID-19 Free

lifejackets-clean.png

A little effort can go a long way toward stopping the coronavirus.

People aren’t the only possible spreaders of the coronavirus. Anyone who thinks their lifejacket has been exposed to any kind of virus should clean it as recommended by the manufacturer and let it dry in a warm, low-humidity environment for at least 72 hours before reuse. There are a number of other approaches that can be taken. More...
