Editor's Report By Eric Colby

Everglades calls the launch of its new 455CC “one of the most significant unveilings in our history. The launch is timed with the company’s platinum anniversary year. Highlights include Everglades’ largest helm to date developed in concert by Garmin’s Advanced Electronics Engineers that has three super-sized multifunction displays.

Everglades’ reputation is built on a legacy of bluewater fishing machines and the 455CC carries on the tradition with port and starboard hullside doors, in-floor fish boxes and upper station. She also exhibits the company’s focus on quality with high-quality leather-like upholstery, above- and below-deck climate control and triple Release Marine helm seats. Belowdecks, she has a king-sized berth, galley and separate head with shower.

Among the available custom options on the 455CC are matching the engine colors to those of the hullside.

Features

The Cockpit. Since Everglades is known for fishing, that’s where we will start. The 455CC has a single-level cockpit with 360-degree perimeter access. Two 22-gallon (83.28-liter) insulated in-deck fish boxes have are illuminated and have macerated pump-outs. The forward fish box has the same equipment and a capacity of 120 gallons (454.25 liters). Two more boxes in the transom are rated at 75 (283.91) and 40 gallons (151.42 liters). Twin 50-gallon (189.27-liter) pressurized livewells have a redundant pump and clear acrylic lids.

Tackle stores in lockers, trays and drawers in the mezzanine. There’s also a dedicated leader spool and slide-out wastebasket. Four under-gunwale 30-amp power ports power-up accessories and there two quick-cam cleats for the 22’ (6.71 m) Gemlux carbon-fiber outriggers. The 455CC has a total of 40 rod holders plus under-gunwale rod long-tool storage racks. Two powder-coated toe rails provide security for anglers fighting a fish.

The 455CC has open passage from the fishing-dedicated cockpit to the comfortable seating in the bow.

Gunwale racks have space for rods and long accessories like gaff hooks and shown here is the optional SeaDek mat.

Moving forward, the mezzanine has a row of Release Marine teak ladderback seats with armrests and cupholders. There’s drawer storage underneath and elevated aft seating with a folding footrest, cupholders and two USB chargers. Guests seated in this area can stay cool thanks to a 16,000 BTU air-conditioning system. A 30-gallon (113.56-liter) insulated storage tub is beneath a hinged lid. It also has a light and drains. LED lights are flush-mounted and there’s a pull-out hot and cold freshwater shower.

There are hullside doors in the cockpit and plus forward- and aft-facing seating. Even the mezzanine seats have an upscale feel with tall backrests.

The Helm. The 455CC’s helm has Everglades’ patented hydraulic sliding windshield with tempered glass and a washer-wiper system. The panel has space for triple 22” (55.88 cm) flush-mounted displays and incorporates Garmin digital switching with touch-screen controls. There’s recessed storage with inductive cell-phone chargers and pull-out personal-item storage. The steering wheel and compass are on the centerline and the helm has three individual Release Marine teak ladderback helm seats mounted on SHOX rotating seat bases. The dash has air four adjustable discharge vents for the air conditioning. Footrests and the helm deck are finished in anti-fatigue mat. Overhead, the fiberglass hardtop has space for additional electronics including dual chartplotters that are viewable from the second row seats and cockpit. There are LED lights integrated into the top and aft-facing spreaders with red LEDs over the dash and a remote-controlled spotlight. A hinged access panel lets technicians get to the rigging.

The helm definitely has a large-yacht feel with triple captain’s chairs and a tempered glass windshield. Notice the grabrails integrated into the hardtop frame.

An optional full upper station includes Yamaha’s Helm Master system, a sun top, three folding bolsters, a glove box, a Garmin 8616 screen, GHS 11 wired handset and GHC 20 auto pilot control.

The optional upper helm has three across forward-facing bolsters and two aft-facing if a captain needs to use them when backing down on a fish.

The Cabin and Head. Inside the console, there’s horseshoe-shaped seating with an actuating backrest and storage underneath. A high-low folding teak table converts to a king berth. The galley has a solid-surface counter, glass sink, a microwave, refrigerator and storage. There’s 12,000 BTUs of air conditioning and a flatscreen TV as well. The enclosed head has an opening portlight and a separate shower.

The lounges in the salon convert into a king berth when the teak table is lowered and a filler cushion is added.

The Bow. If the cockpit is the fishing headquarters on the 455CC, the bow is designed for comfort with triple chaise-style lounges on the front of the console and two benches with removable backrests forward. An electrically powered table converts into a casting platform and there are in-gunwale storage compartments. Forward, the ground tackle includes a 44-lb stainless-steel anchor that’s deployed with an electric windlass. It comes with 475’ (144.78 m) of 5/8” (1.59 cm) 8-plait rode with 25’ (7.62 m) of 3/8” (.95 cm) chain. Fresh- and raw-water washdowns are in the anchor locker. Additional bow storage includes 30-gallon tubs to port and starboard, in-gunwale lockers and seat-back pockets.

Triple chaise-style lounges on the front of the console add a level of luxury and comfort.

The bow is set up for comfortable cruising but can convert to a large casting platform.

Construction. Like all Everglades boats, the 455CC is built with the manufacturer’s patented closed-molded Rapid Molded Core Assembly Process (RAMCAP) construction. The flotation foam is cut in blocks and built into the hull bottom. There’s no wood in the boat. She’s built with high-density closed-cell structural foam, premium gelcoat, a vinylester barrier coat and knitted bi-axial fiberglass. The hull liner and deck are matched to create a one-piece construction and the liner is finished on the inside. Everglades says its boats are unsinkable and will float level when swamped. The hardtop structure is made in-house and powder-coated. Wire harnesses are all made in-house with tinned copper wire, heat-shrink terminals and waterproof Deutsch plugs. Rigging tubes are molded into the hull and deck for easy routing. All circuits are protected with breakers or fuses.

The heavy-duty bow eye and scuff plate are indicative of the high-grade hardware used throughout the 455CC.

The only engines offered on the boat are quad 425-hp Yamaha XTO Offshores.

Other Highlights. For maximum tie-down options, there are six 10” (25.4 cm) pull-up cleats and six quick-release fender pins. To calm the ride, the 455CC has a Seakeeper 6 gyroscopic stabilizer plus automatic Zipwake trim tabs. A 15kW diesel generator has a dedicated 30-gallon (113.56-liter) tank and there’s a 50’ (15.24 m) long, 50-amp shorepower cord. Plugs are mounted on the transom.
