layout of outrage 330

With plenty of deck space, there is lots of room to get from fore to aft and back again when the action is hot and heavy. In addition, that same space can be utilized for a host of on-water family activities.

Bow

The large, deep-welled bow area provides the kind of fishing space for heavy action while allowing for more than ample room for gathering while the family is aboard.

bow area

Social seating and fishing space share the bow area. Not the deep well for safety and the recessed, stainless rails to either side. The large bow hatch houses the windlass.
storage area

An easy-to-open hatch opens wide to a large, lockable storage space underneath the center cushion.
rod storage

In addition to a large storage space, rod storage here is also provided.
cushioned seating area

The two forward cushions, courtesy of robust hardware, easily open and lock close to the large storage space below.
bow hatch

The bow hatch holds the windlass, rode, remote control, double roller, and 39-gallon fresh water wash down.

Helm

The centerline helm is positioned for optimum views ahead into the seaway as well as from either side. All controls are within easy reach as is the safe port or starboard passage to the wide walkways.

touchscreen helm console

A pair of 16" Simrad touchscreens take center stage on the helm console. A row of easy-to-reach rocker switches runs across the top of the console with both throttles and joystick located nearby.
teak deck

Inside the center console, with an entrance to starboard, is the head compartment. The teak deck is standard.
bolstered seats

An equally impressive console provides the driver and guest with bolstered seats. A storage cabinet is below

Rocket launchers and outriggers are available for the fishing profile.

Cockpit

Whether fishing or entertaining, the cockpit on the Boston Whaler 330 Outrage is designed for optimizing the usable space.

deck and helm space

Plenty of deck space combines with seating just aft of the helm seats. The outboard hatches house the in-deck fish boxes with a larger hatch for access to the machinery space.
21 gal live well

The seat lifts up to reveal a 21-gallon live well.
bait station or table

The aft seatback also flips over to convert to a bait station or table. The port boarding door is visible here with a deck plate for a dive ladder. Also seen here are the port and starboard in-deck, insulated fish boxes.

Aft

More innovations await aft with several features designed to make both angling and cruising more exciting and enjoyable.

fold down bench seat

The fold down bench seat at the transom makes for additional seating while in the up position, more deck space for fishing.
optional teak table

An optional teak table provides aft deck dining possibilities.
55 gal live well

Rounding out the aft end's fishing amenities is this 55-gal live well.
ladder

Getting in and out of the water is safe and easy with this stainless, telescoping ladder on the starboard aft side.

A Word About Performance

Boston Whaler 330 Outrage running on water

Excitement is what the Boston Whaler 330 Outrage is all about and to that end, whether equipped with a pair of standard 300-hp V8 Mercury outboards or, as on our test boat, dual optional 425-hp V10 Mercury’s, the end result is power and control while running on that dual step, WhalerStep™ hull technology.

Our test day saw winds at10 mph with calm seas and 74% relative humidity. There were two people aboard and we had approximately 69% of our total fuel capacity of 300 gallons with a 10% reserve and a test weight of 13,158 pounds. Our WOT came in at a sizzling 61.7 mph at 6500 rpm with a best cruise at 4500 rpm and 41.5 mph. At that rate we calculated a range of 357.0 statute miles with a 10% fuel reserve. She got up on plane around 20 knots at 3300/3400 rpm and on hole shots, reached 0-10 mph in about four seconds, 0-20 in about 6.2 seconds, 0-30  in about 9.5 seconds, and 0-40 in about 23.5 seconds.

That impressive performance is due in great part to Boston Whaler’s WhalerStep™ hull technology. Skipping the advanced physics and math formulas, and sticking to the basics of a stepped and foam injected hull, the twin steps allows air to flow under the hull, drawn there by low pressure created by the boat moving forward at increasing planning speeds. This forms a thin layer of air bubbles between the water and the hull. The result is lesser wetted surfaces and drag, ending in better fuel economy with higher speeds. In addition, Boston Whaler has added a strake along the centerline of the hull. It is located from the second strake to the transom and acts as a tracking keel providing lateral resistance to improve directional stability for more controlled stability during high-speed operations.

Summary

The performance-based Boston Whaler 330 Outrage center console seamlessly blends the needs of the offshore fishing crew with that of spending the day engaged in family fun on the water. Designed, engineered, and built with Boston Whaler’s legendary foam-filled hull, for its well-deserved unsinkable reputation, double stepped hull, and perfectly balanced power, this is a boat that will easily deliver excitement no matter which adventure her owners choose to engage in.

Decked out with a premier list of optional equipment, including a pair of 425-hp V10 Mercury outboards and a SeaKeeper Gyro, along with a long list of standard gear, the Boston Whale 330 Outrage will easily take her place among the other fine offerings from this iconic builder.

About the Reporting Captains

Experts and Boat Owners

What has set BoatTEST apart from the many video-makers currently on the Internet and Social Media is the fact that for 26 years, only USCG-Licensed captains and experienced boat owners have tested and written our reports and made our videos. We believe that to provide boat owners the information they deserve, only other boat owners – who know the challenges of ownership -- can accurately report on it.  It is that level of expertise and ownership experience that goes into every video and Captain’s Report that we publish.  Because we know what it is like owning and operating a boat, we can pass-on the information that prospective boat buyers need to know.

Capt. Boomies

capt Boomies

Captain Boomies (aka Capt. Kate) holds a 200- ton USCG license and worked on superyachts for 20 years, captaining vessels up to 150’ before retiring several years ago. She now is a delivery skipper of all manner of vessels. When not testing boats for BoatTEST, she often can be found taking new yachts off their cargo ships in the port of Baltimore, getting them operational, then delivering them to dealerships. Unbeknownst to dozens of boat owners in the Chesapeake Bay, Capt. Boomies was actually the first skipper of their boats, because she actually delivered them to the dealerships. She is also active in boat instruction and making videos for her personal website. Capt. Boomies believes boating is fun,, and people doing it should not take it too seriously, she always inserts a bit of humor and theatricality into many of the tests she does.  But don’t be fooled by that, Capt. Boomies has wrong more saltwater out of their socks than most people every sail over.

Capt. Ken Kreisler

capt ken krisler

Capt. Ken Kreisler is a well-known figure in the marine industry, with extensive experience testing boats for major boating magazines. He has held USCG 100-Ton License for 40 years and has served as a delivery and charter fishboat captain, project manager for two small passenger ferry catamarans, making sure every details met USCG build standards. Capt. Ken is an accomplished writer, having received several BWI awards and the John Burroughs Association certificate of commendation for his children's book, "NATURE SPY," published by Macmillan. He resides with his family on the Shrewsbury River in Monmouth Beach, NJ, where he enjoys boating on his 24-foot Grady White Explorer.
