Cockpit & Machinery Space

You can use this Mercury-supplied graph to compare the engines used in their data collection. The test Boston Whaler 365 Conquest weighed in at 22,803 pounds and was equipped with triple 400-hp V-10 Mercury outboard engines with 39% of the 400-gallon fuel capacity and two passengers. The props were 22” Rev-X. Top speed, at 6400 rpm, was 55.7 mph, with a best cruise coming in at 36.8 mph at 4500 rpm. At the speed, she had a range of about 296 statute miles with a 10% fuel reserve. And she ran from idle to 30 mph in 8.8 seconds. She was exhilarating at straight runs at speed, handled tight turns and maneuvers with assurance, and was a dream to operate.

Handling Impressions (Underway)

On-plane behavior: "Getting up on plane, I have my trim tabs up and the boat's trimmed all the way down — gets up on plane quick, not too much bow rise."

Visibility (standing): Good visibility, with a bolster that pops down and a seat that adjusts fore and aft.

Turning / sunroof visibility: "If I made a hard turn to port, the boat would lean over, and I could actually see out the sunroof — which is a good thing, because a lot of times the hardtop will drop down where you cannot see where you're going. That's a pretty interesting thing."

Sea state note: Testing occurred in flat conditions, so the boat's known heavy-weather capability could not be fully assessed. Captain Tripp noted the power on hand: "You can feel the gear change within the gear case as you are coming up on the RPMs... in my opinion, the boat has plenty of power with those engines."

Category positioning: "You know this isn't gonna be a sport boat. You're not just gonna get up on plane and run really, really quickly, and it's not gonna react super quickly and be ultra nimble in the turns, but it still is nimble." During a hard turn to starboard: "The boat's gonna lay over pretty well... you hear those engines shift gears, then they'll come back around, hook up with those big old props, and you're back underway."

Long-run comfort: Heading-hold autopilot, adjustable via a nearby knob, allows relaxed long-distance cruising: "I can just see myself being on this boat for multiple days, maybe coming down the East Coast or headed to the Bahamas... those long days will be very comfortable on this boat."

Performance Data Note

Captain Tripp disclosed that due to technical issues, BoatTEST was unable to conduct its own performance test; the figures reported were previously gathered by Boston Whaler's own technicians.

Cockpit

Dimensions: 115 by 66 inches. Depth: 28 inches. Freeboard at stern: 38 inches.

Fish box (starboard): 52 inches long, approximately 16 inches deep, part of Boston Whaler's double-hull foam-filled construction — Captain Tripp noted the finished lid liner as "a sign of a more premium built boat." Includes a Frost Box system to keep contents chilled.

Dive door (starboard side of cockpit): Positioned with a bracket for point-of-use storage directly above where it's needed. Captain Tripp noted this as a recurring theme throughout the boat. Includes a flip-up handle to assist boarding, plus two JL Audio speakers (part of the premium audio system).

Hawse pipe / cup holder combo: Allows dock lines to pass through down to the cleat below.

Transom — Summer Kitchen

Counter space: 70 inches, with an electric Kenyon grill and a sink; the underside doubles as a cutting board.

Port side: Dedicated storage for a 5-gallon bucket, plus point-of-use storage for the sink cover. Switches for courtesy lights and the shore power reel. Three drawers, a pull-out refrigerator under the countertop, and two 110-volt outlets (suited to a blender or electric fillet knife).

Livewell: 19-gallon pressurized, with a small mechanical access opening below.

Bolster area: Switches for both fish boxes and the livewell, plus fresh and raw water spigots. A 27-inch flip-down bench seat is tucked under the bolster.

Standard transom configuration note: The standard option is a flip-out bench seat rather than the summer kitchen (as optioned on the test boat).

Dinette setup: An additional integrated seat forward, with a table receptacle nearby creating a U-shaped dining configuration.

Mechanical Space

Upon opening the hatch, the Seakeeper gyro's spooling sound became audible — Captain Tripp noted the hatch's thick insulation and gasket kept it quiet when closed.

Generator: 12 kW diesel, powering the optional Seakeeper gyro and the two standard 16,000 BTU AC systems (helm and cabin).

Labeling: Captain Tripp praised Boston Whaler's placards on the underside of mechanical hatches, identifying seacock locations and functions — important information in an urgent situation.

Additional contents: Batteries, main battery switches, bilge pumps, strainers, and fire suppression, all within easy reach. A spanner wrench is stored in a dedicated point-of-use location right by the strainers.

Hardtop Supports

Rod holders and a ladder are integrated into the supports on either side of the hardtop, providing access to the optional upper helm station. A sunshade can be extended over the cockpit from this structure.

Aft Seating (Under Hardtop)

Bench: 35 inches wide, doubling as a dinette seat. A pull-out refrigerated drawer sits beneath, with a footrest below that. An additional pull-out bench seat is positioned lower for those preferring not to sit as high.

Starboard storage: Additional storage behind a cabinet, including a dedicated space for another 5-gallon bucket, fishing tool storage above, and a drawer.

Transom / Swim Platform

Engines: Twin Mercury 600 V12s.

Swim platform: Approximately 8-inch walk-across width, accessible from either side, with four rod holders along the transom.

Swim ladder: Concealed four-step telescopic ladder underfoot, with a grab handle for boarding assistance.

Additional stern features: Hot and cold freshwater rinse; a button-actuated automatic freshwater engine flush — Captain Tripp: "When you come back to the dock, you hook up to fresh water, push this button, and it flushes your engines and you walk away."

Side Decks (Forward, Around Pilot House)

Two steps up to the walkway. Path width approximately 9 inches; between rail and cabin top approximately 15 inches; rail height 25 inches. A grab rail runs along the hardtop essentially the full length of the boat, plus a lower tow rail — Captain Tripp: "It's gonna keep anyone from slipping overboard."

Fender storage: Spring-loaded, pop-out line/fender holders — set the fender at the desired height, release, and friction holds it in place.

Bow

Sun pad: 80 by 62 inches — plenty of room for two. Small cubbies on each side, two cup holders, and a grab handle alongside.

Anchor locker: Access to the rode, a remote for the quick windlass, a freshwater spigot for washing a muddy anchor, and a light for nighttime use.

Standard ground tackle: Electric windlass, 400 feet of chain and rode, and a 35-pound polished stainless steel anchor.

Additional bow hardware: 10-inch cleats on both port and starboard; two rod holders at the aft end of the bow area, which can also support a sunshade attached to the hardtop for full shade coverage.

Helm Deck Access

Two 7-inch steps with courtesy lighting. An electrical panel behind a door offers easy access.

Pilot House Option

Captain Tripp noted Boston Whaler offers a pilot house option enclosing the upper helm deck in glass, fully conditioned, with a door and large windows for ventilation when desired. His personal preference: "I think I would prefer that option, because if you want the AC or heat, you have it. If you still want to ventilate the area, you have a door here and large windows that could be open to still ventilate the entire space."

Galley Up (Helm Deck, As Optioned)

Countertop: 38 inches, with a hidden sink and a removable cutting board; point-of-use storage located to the side. Also includes an electric induction cooktop and two cup holders. Captain Tripp praised the nearby grab handle for cooking while underway. A refrigerator is located below.

Helm

Seat: Bolstered, adjustable fore and aft, with two armrests.

Overhead: Raymarine (transcribed "RAD") VHF and Seakeeper controls, a centerline compass, and two AC vents.

Push buttons: Includes a bilge pump switch (with visual indicator lights confirming pump activation/sensing) and other frequently used functions.

Displays: Two large Simrad units controlling the entire boat, including a one-touch "lead boat" (likely "leave boat") shutdown function — Captain Tripp: "You don't have to worry about, oh, did I shut this off? Did I shut that off? It's done for you."

Additional helm controls: JL Audio system controls, spotlight control, two cup holders, trim tab controls, Mercury engine controls, and a joystick. Frequently used switches (autopilot adjustment, wiper speed, vent controls, horn) are positioned within easy reach without needing to lean forward.

Storage: Two cubbies (one with an inductive phone charger), a kill switch, the Simrad mic, and CFI fire suppression system controls.

Port Dinette

Multiple configurations: as tested, dining mode; push-button lowers the table with two filler cushions added to form a berth; alternatively, flipping the backrest converts the seat to face forward, creating a co-pilot position.

Co-pilot station: Includes an additional 19-inch Simrad screen (optioned) — Captain Tripp noted the value for guest engagement on long trips, and specifically for safety at night: "Let's say you're coming into an inlet at night and you're trying to spot some buoys as the operator... you can have someone else, your co-pilot, spotting those buoys on the chart... that way you as the operator, you're not inhibiting your night vision."

Additional features: Underneath storage locker, a grab handle, two cup holders, small-item recess, a JL Audio speaker, and — underneath the Simrad mount — a glove box with dual USB ports.

Window material: Macrolon polycarbonate in the window frame, noted for higher UV resistance than traditional glass ("isinglass" per context, transcribed as "eyes").

Cabin Entry

Companionway opening: 20 inches, with a handrail along the starboard side.

Headroom: 6 feet, 9 inches near the entry, stepping down to 6 feet, 5 inches slightly forward.

Forward Cabin (V-Berth Area)

Configured as a U-shaped dinette rather than a traditional V-berth, converting hands-free to an island berth via push-button table lowering and seat closure.

Island berth benefit: Captain Tripp noted ease of access and bed-making. Finish details include varied upholstery/surface treatments, accent overhead lighting, and recessed LED lighting.

Storage: On both sides of the berth, including a small stash area behind the side cushion. Hull-side windows on both sides; a TV underneath on the starboard side, with three smaller cubbies, a storage cabinet, cup holders, a 110-volt outlet, and USB charging.

Port Salon Couch

72 inches long, with underneath storage; the backrest flips down to form a small table. The boat can be optioned with "galley down," converting half this couch into galley space, with a concealed microwave behind cabinet storage, and access to the main electrical panel.

Head

Electric flush toilet; vanity with storage underneath, a 110-volt outlet on the face, and a grab handle for use underway. Countertop features a vessel sink with a fiddle rail, plus a appropriately sized window for natural light. Storage cubby and cabinets above for toiletries.

Shower: Rain shower head in the ceiling, plus a wand for rinsing the floor; textured non-slip material; a teak bench seat.

Aft Berth

Hanging locker and two small cubbies at the entry. Entryway height: 42 inches. Headroom over the berth: 32 inches. Berth dimensions: 78 by 52 inches.

Storage behind some cushions, plus a TV. One small cushion section is reversible, flipping to reveal a small table with cup holders.
