Vessel Inspection
From bow to stern, the Nimbus W11 has been designed and engineered to fulfill her mission to provide an exciting, safe and comfortable experience while underway, spending time on the hook or hosting a gathering at the dock.
As these overhead layout diagrams show, her main deck arrangement (left) allows for maximum flow by providing wide passages to and from the starboard helm to the sunpad and swim platform aft. With her walkaround decks a bit wider to starboard, more usable space is afforded to the main deck interior and below deck (right) as seen in the two-stateroom layout.
Bow
Helm and Cockpit
The Nimbus W11 presents an outstanding helm and cockpit space. They complement one another by supplying the right flow for enjoying the excitement of being out on the water, whether you are heading to a daily destination or traveling for several days.
The helm seat is adjustable back and forth and swivels around. The stylish helm console features a pair of 12” Simrad touchscreens.
All controls, including joystick, throttles, windlass and bow thruster, are within easy reach. To port is a combination couch/seat with a backrest that can be unlocked so it can recline, making for a comfortable place to watch the passing scenery. The sliding door to and from the living accommodations is just to the left of the helm console.
Aft
As we’ve discovered, the Nimbus W11 is a full-featured, purpose-built boat. To supply the optimum opportunity for her owners and guests to enjoy all she has to offer, in addition to what we’ve seen so far, Nimbus has paid special attention to the aft section.
Living Accommodations
Accessed via a sliding door located just to the left of the helm console gains entrance to the two-stateroom, single-head layout aboard. Knowing full well that the Nimbus W11 is an excellent weekender, she has the kind of comfortable spaces and additional storage for extending the time aboard.
Machinery Space
Hands-on owners will like the access and space afforded to this area. Easily controlled by a hydraulically operated hatch, whose up and down buttons are located in the cockpit area, there is more than enough room for equipment, doing any kind of maintenance, as well as providing additional storage.
A Word About Performance
While sea conditions can vary daily and from location to location, our test numbers were quite impressive on our outing. Our test boat was equipped with the standard twin 300-hp Mercury V6 outboard engines, turning a pair of 17” Mercury Revolution4 props on a day that saw flat seas, an air temperature of 79°, low humidity and a test weight of 13,345 lbs. with three people on board and 60% of her 225-gallon fuel capacity.
Out of the hole, we saw 10 mph at 3.4 seconds, 20 in 7.2, and 30 in 14.4 seconds. Excited and exhilarated at the same time are to be expected here and with little to no bow rise and quick to plane, those feelings were solidified. With her narrow, two-step hull, she was able to cut tight turns and stay in control at all times. We reached a top speed of 46.2 mph turning 6000 rpm.
Our best cruise sweet spot saw 41.5 mph at 5500 rpm and a fuel burn of 2.1 mpg. At that rate, our range came in at 426 sm with a 10% fuel reserve. Of course, if you want to throttle down and are in no hurry to get where you are going, those range and fuel burn numbers will be most impressive. The Nimbus W11 is a fun boat to drive and most responsive to the helm.
Summary
One of the tag lines from Nimbus concerning the W11 is, “Extend your weekends.” To that end, she is well-equipped to do just that. Given her exemplary layout, amenities, power options, and her being built for those with active lifestyles who want to get where they are going quicker and go further, she more than fulfills that notion.
But there is more to this good looking performer than just her impressive exterior lines and her comfortable, well-equipped interior. Since 1997, Nimbus has been using and improving on its use of vacuum injection resulting in a strongly built vessel. It’s fit and finish is excellent and its use of space is textbook. The company is also forward thinking and has an ethic and work standard of sustainability and being environmentally responsible.
When you step aboard the Nimbus W11 and take the wheel, you may get the feeling many have: That this is where you belong, on a boat like this, going where you want in the style you’ve always imagined. Set up a visit and take her out for a ride. You will not be disappointed.
Remember, life is better on a boat!
