Helm

Paying special attention to the needs of the helm space, Regal made sure all the necessary and important nav aids, controls, switches, screens, and other functioning equipment necessary for safe and exact operations were situated in just the right position on the helm console of the 34XO.

Regal XO Helm

As with everywhere aboard the new Regal 34XO, there are wide open spaces at the helm for ease of movement to and from as well as with operations while underway. This is especially true at the helm where a single, swiveling and bolstered pedestal seat commands center stage.

A pair of large Garmin touchscreens dominate the nav system with the intuitive digital switching screen up and running to the left. A Word About Performance

The 34XO runs on Regal’s OceanTrac2 hull, one that delivers exceptional handling and a smooth, dry ride offshore. In addition to this superior running ability, and when paired with twin 5.6L 450-hp V8 Yamaha XTO outboards, we experienced responsive steering, predictable tracking, and her potential versatility as a cross-over boat over a wide-range of on-water activities. With a running bottom designed and engineered to balance speed, efficiency, comfort, and stability, the new Regal 34XO is well-suited for both serious cruising and recreational activities.

Tracking straight and true during WOT and hole shots, our Regal 34XO test boat delivered exciting performance.

Test day saw air temperature at 87°F, a negligible wind speed registering 7 knots, calm seas, and relative humidity at 90%. At 6000 rpm, we reached a top speed of 50.5 mph. Quickly finding our best cruise at 4000 rpm, we settled into a comfortable speed of 30.0 mph and calculated a range of 262.6 statute miles all while holding back a 10% reserve of our total 284 gallon fuel capacity.

We found transition to plane at about 3000 and 3300 rpm with hole shots of 0-10 mph in 5.0 seconds, 0-20 mph in 10 seconds, 0-30 in 16 seconds. With perfect conditions, we put our Regal 34XO test boat through series of tight turns, hard over maneuvers,  noted little bow rise when planning and able to keep the horizon in sight,  and with employing the Yamaha Speed Control we noted no bleed off of speed during those drills.
Fulfilling her profile as a Cross Over, Bowrider, Cabin Cruiser, and Sport Boat, the Regal 34XO easily transfers a feeling of confidence and certainty while underway.

We tested our Regal 34XO equipped with a pair of 400-hp Yamaha 5.6L V8 XTO offshore outboards. Twin Mercury 425-hp Verado 5.7L V10 outboards are also available.

Summary

Built in loyalty from a family-owned company since 1969 comes standard aboard the new Regal 34XO as this iconic builder presents a complete answer to the boater’s desire for versatility. By seamlessly merging high-performance handling with thoughtful luxury, she transforms from a nimble fishing platform by day into a serene overnight cruiser by night. Whether casting lines in coastal shallows, plying the offshore waters in search of big fish, hosting guests under the stars, spending the day at the sand bar or participating in an assortment of exciting water sports, the 34XO proves that you don’t have to choose between adventure and comfort—you can simply enjoy both.

About the Reporting Captains

Experts and Boat Owners

What has set BoatTEST apart from the many video-makers currently on the Internet and Social Media is the fact that for 26 years, only USCG-Licensed captains and experienced boat owners have tested and written our reports and made our videos. We believe that to provide boat owners the information they deserve, only other boat owners – who know the challenges of ownership -- can accurately report on it.  It is that level of expertise and ownership experience that goes into every video and Captain’s Report that we publish.  Because we know what it is like owning and operating a boat, we can pass-on the information that prospective boat buyers need to know.
