Sirena 68: Semi-Displacement Customizable Cruiser

Mission

Sirena Yachts' goal with the 68 was to create an efficient cruiser with a wide range of speed parameters on a semi-displacement hull.  Her capable hull form gives her long-range capability while optional engine choices increase the top end.

Performance

We haven’t tested the 68 but the team at Sirena has. They report that with the twin 900-hp Volvo D13s, she’ll reach a top speed of 26 knots. With the 1,000-hp engines, top speed is 28 knots. Cruise is at 16 knots with a 34-GPH (130 LPH) fuel burn.  Distance cruise is 10 knots with a 1,200 nautical mile range. 

Boat Inspection

The shape of the hull allows Sirena to increase the interior volume and it’s noticeable as soon as she’s boarded.  The Sirena 68 is clearly a yacht designed for large gatherings and cruising with many people. 

Aft Deck

There's seating at the table for 10. Ahead is a cabinet that this owner specified to be used for shoe storage.  Alternatively, it could be used for housing a cockpit refrigerator or icemaker but it’s the first indication of Sirena’s willingness to customize to an owner’s preference.  We’ll see many more examples throughout the yacht.

Interior

Galley

The Sirena 68 was designed with an aft galley.  Counters are marble, which is an upgrade from the standard Corian.  Sirena makes good use of space by utilizing the extra room behind the counters for bottle storage — in addition to the already voluminous storage seen throughout the galley.  The usual cast of appliances is ever-present, including a dishwasher.  Most notable is the full-sized refrigerator/freezer (9.2 cu ft/.26 cu m).

At the aft side of the galley, there’s a drop-down window that blends the interior with the exterior.  As an option, a larger door could be ordered, which eliminates the drop-down window.

Salon

With the Sirena 68's deck all on a single level, the only delineation between the galley and the salon is the stylized overhead.  The salon features a large U-shaped sofa with drawers underneath.  Ahead can be an owner’s choice of a table or ottomans and across is a storage credenza with a 50” (127 cm) TV on an electric lift.  We can also have two freestanding chairs in front of it to create opposing seating.  An optional wine cooler is also available. 

Wood is oak in combination with lacquer. Color choices include the Inspiration package with lighter tones.  Serenity and Elegance follow with the Elegance having the darker tones.  Serenity would be between the two.  Decking is also oak.   

The Sirena 68 comes with a lower helm station to port with dual Stidd seats.  Displays are 22” (55.88 cm) and the ship's electrical panel is within reach of the helm station, right where it should be.  A watertight door provides access to the port side deck.  To the starboard side is a companion area with a table, making it an excellent workstation.  A recent design modification has created increased legroom in this location. 

Bow

The Sirena 68 bow is another area designed to accommodate large groups.  The social aspects start with a huge U-shaped sofa wrapping around a beautifully constructed pedestal table with an electrically actuated hi/lo feature.  Beverage holders and pop-up LED lights are to both sides.  Ahead is a massive three-across sunpad with a convertible headrest that allows for aft-facing seating to complement the U-shaped sofa.  All exterior decking is teak and the high rails are a “staple” design mounted to a teak caprail.  All of this can be under the protection of a Mediterranean sunshade. 

Fully forward, dual mooring windlasses facilitate med-mooring with lines running through the bulwark-mounted rollers.  The anchor windlass is below deck, as is fender storage.  The anchor is a polished stainless steel Ultra anchor mounted to a thru the stem roller.  A very large storage compartment is underneath the sunpad for all the covers. 

Flying Bridge

The flying bridge on the Sirena 68 is among the largest in class.  There’s open deck space aft with a flybridge galley ahead and to starboard.  This can be a simple L-shape or an optional U-shaped with barstools.  There’s a sink and electric grill with plenty of storage.  Alongside is the support stanchion for the hardtop that includes an outdoor shower. 

Ahead is a U-shaped settee and table. The table can be hi/lo and across is a wetbar.  Ahead of the wetbar is a three-across lounge and the helm is to starboard. 

Lower Decks

Master

The Sirena 68 master stateroom is full beam and located midships.  Hull side windows to port and starboard flood the room with natural light.  Choose from a his/her head with a shower in the middle, all behind the aft bulkhead or a single head with the shower in the same position, and a walk-in closet in lieu of the second head. 

With the walk-in closet arrangement, the two forward hanging lockers will be removed, which will increase the views out the hull side windows as that blockage is no longer present.  Of course, one can opt to keep the extra storage.  Additionally, there’s an option for the chest of drawers to be repeated to both sides.  A settee can also be opted for under one window.  As for the vanity option, it can also be made into a desk simply by removing the jewelry dividers inside. 

VIP

The VIP is located forward, but not fully forward in the Sirena 68.  Yes, Sirena could have jammed the berth all the way into the bow but that would have meant some drawbacks, such as the need for steps to the sides and the berth up against the hull sides and the need for “climbing” into the berth. 

Here, the berth and forward bulkhead are moved back to create a slightly smaller stateroom with better access to the berth.  Additionally, this allows for more storage and working space from the bow on the main deck.  This arrangement works quite well and gives the berth more of a homelike feel.  There is also a private ensuite. 

Guest Staterooms

Observations

The Sirena 68 has been so incredibly well-received that the team is currently (as of April 2022) designing hull number 38 and it’s still going strong.  Her popularity comes from her many upscale treatments as well as an owner’s ability to add so many custom features.
