Regal 42 FXO:
Outboards Add Speed, Utility, and Space

Regal Marine re-designed the 42 FXO flying bridge yacht for triple outboards to make her a more versatile boat for families who don’t want inboard power. By doing so, Regal is getting in front of a trend that has been developing, and it is one of the few 42' (12.8 m) flybridge yachts on the market with outboard power. Maintenance is simple because it is done once a year or every 100 hours by the dealer. Just keep an eye on the oil. The FXO is powered by triple Yamaha 425s, and we scored a WOT speed of 49.4 mph during our tests.

Plan Your Summer, and Work Your Plan

The word we are getting from virtually all boat builders is that their production is sold out for the next six months – much of it at retail. Two popular brands that we know of have every boat they can build next year already purchased by dealers. This means for the summer boating season you want, decisions should be made now. This week, BoatTEST Reports lets you in on some of the latest new boats launched, and a lot more.

Everglades 253CC:
Premium Center Console w/Smart Ideas

The Everglades 253CC is a true multi-purpose center console. She has a deep-V bottom with 20 degrees of deadrise at the transom that can cut through offshore waves, yet she only draws 16” (40.64 cm) so she can fish the shallows. For seating, she has full-width folding aft jumpers, plus lounges on the front of the console and in the bow. But the most innovative feature might be the rotating side-by-side captain’s chairs that can be spun for aft-facing mezzanine-style seating, shown above.

Nimbus 365 Coupe:
Sub 40’ Long Range Cruiser

Nimbus designs the 365 Coupe to spend extended time at sea. The key to being able to do this comfortably is the boat’s asymmetrical layout, which picks up 8" to 10" (20 to 25 cm) for added space in the cabin. The salon lounge converts to a berth, which is wider as a result. Passageways to starboard make it easy to move from bow to stern and large windows bathe the salon in light. Belowdecks, she has a master stateroom and a cabin for a single guest. A separate shower in the head is a welcome surprise.

Hodgdon Yachts’ Electrically-Powered Tenders

Hodgdon Yachts, which is based in Southport, Maine and is said to be the oldest continuously operating boat builder in the U.S., now offers 10 tenders. Most recently, Hodgdon Tenders teamed with Italian company Vita Super Power to offer its 10.5-meter (34.45') Venetian Limo Tender and 12-meter (39.37') Venetian Aft Helm Limo Tender models with an electric engine coupled to a Volvo Penta Duoprop sterndrive. Movie director Steven Spielberg certainly has an eye for the dramatic and ordered two Hodgdon Tenders sometime back. We think they fit in well at a swanky yacht club.

Formula 400 Super Sport Crossover:
Engineered for Big Outboards

One of the signature design elements of Formula’s 400 Super Sport Crossover is the spacious swim platform between the aft lounge and the engines. The manufacturer extended the bottom past the boat’s transom to the trailing edge of the platform and beefed up the interior structure to support quad 350-hp outboards. This provides added flotation so the boat floats more level when at rest. By moving the outboards back, Formula has created space on each side to launch watersports. A horizontal banister in front of the engines can hold rocket launchers for fishing.
