Seakeeper 1:
Anti-Roll Stabilization for Smaller Boats
The Seakeeper 1 is the smallest gyroscopic anti-roll stabilizer that the company makes, and it’s intended for boats from 23’ to 30’ (7.01 m to 9.14 m). It runs on DC power, so no generator is needed. Its small footprint and unique-to-the-brand flush-mount design let it be installed almost anywhere. The 365-lb. (165.56 kg) unit doesn’t need to be tied into the stringers, but many boat manufacturers are already designing internal structures to accept the Seakeeper 1. For our test, Capt. Steve stood on a narrow center-console foredeck and challenged another boater to knock him off. The result was...

Schaefer Yachts 400:
Open Plan on a Solid Foundation
The Schaefer 400 is designed for day boating with a group or for an overnight getaway for two couples. Her main deck is open all the way from the swim platform to the helm and there’s a large curving settee with a smaller lounge opposite in the cockpit. It basically creates a large circular booth. Her transom console houses a grill and sink beneath a protective hatch. Belowdecks, she has two staterooms at opposite ends of the boat, each with its own head. She’s available with sterndrive or outboard power. More...

Formula 330 Crossover Bowrider:
Luxury Dayboat with Overnight Ability
Formula 330 Crossover Bowrider
With the 330 Crossover Bowrider, Formula was one of the first to combine the ability to entertain a large gathering during the day and still let the owners sneak away for a quiet overnight outing in the same boat. Obviously, the main attraction of the 330 CBR is the large, open gathering areas from stern to bow and she exhibits the luxurious amenities for which Formula is known. Adding in the cabin, private head and a small galley adds to the boat’s allure. She’s definitely for discerning buyers only and here's why...

Hampton Yachts Technical:
Systemic Simplicity
Hampton Yachts builds its Endurance series for owner-operators and these motoryachts are a great example of the three pillars we look for in a coastal cruiser – ease of use, system redundancy and a quality build. Her engine compartment has 6’11” (2.11 m) of headroom and we could walk all the way around the twin Cat C18 1,136-hp diesels. At the entrance to the compartment, Hampton puts the control panels for the boat’s two generators as well as the clearly labeled battery switches in convenient reach. For redundancy, both main engines and the generator have power take-offs to run the hydraulic accessories. More...

Tigé Boats R23:
Wakes For All Sports
Many wakesports boat manufacturers seem content to concentrate on making waves only for surfing. With its R23, Tigé Boats touts the boat’s ability to create wakes for all watersports disciplines. The 23’ (7.01 m) boat rides on a patented Convex V-shaped hull that curves up toward the transom and has the manufacturer’s third-generation Tigé Adjustable Performance System (TAPS 3T). She also tops 35 mph at WOT. More...

Great White Shark Bites
Mercury Outboard, Then Flips
A 14' (4.27 m) Great White shark mellows out after chewing on a Mercury lower unit.
The 34’ (10.36 m) SeaVee center console, Offshore Therapy, owned by veteran angler Erika Almond, was about 60 miles off Tampa in search of some snapper when a large Great White shark showed up to taste the boat’s triple Mercury outboard rig. All of this was caught on video, including a pat on its snout and an obvious request for a tummy rub. More...
